Fiber Optics

Fiber optic cable consists of thin glass filaments that transmit light waves carrying very large amounts of data for very long distances. Since signals are transmitted with the use of light waves, electromagnetic and radio frequency interference (EMI / RFI) is nonexistent. Lightning and high voltage interference is also eliminated. A fiber network is best for conditions where EMI / RFI interference is heavy or where safe operation free from sparks and static is a must. Fiber optic cable also offers added security because transmissions are safe from electronic eaves-dropping.

Benefits of using Fiber Optics

Fast & accurate transmission of data with speeds limited only to the equipment you utilize . Future-ready system frees you from constant upgrading. Immune to EMI / RFI, Lightning and Electronic Eavesdropping. Data transmission can reach lengths of more than 20 km.

Where do I need it?

Point to point applications like:

  • Local area network bridging
  • CAD/CAM
  • Video
  • Modems
  • Computer channel extenders
  • Voice/ data multiplexers
  1. Local area network applications
  2. Broadcast & Telecommunications
  3. Static-Free Environments
  4. Military applications

Multimode fiber optic cable

This cable is used in most LAN applications, and has many other uses as well.  This class of cable has a number of different core diameters, the most common being 62.5/125 micron fiber.  Other sizes are available by special order.

Singlemode fiber optic cable

This is the cable of choice in "longer" applications, such as long distance telephone lines, long runs between buildings, or in high speed applications like "sonet" rings.  The fiber diameter is 8.5/125 microns.
